Case study

From 42 to 69 out of 100 in four rounds of work

This is a real project: a recruitment and headhunting consultancy in Madrid. The client asked for anonymity, so you won't see their name or their website, but you will see exactly what I did and what changed.

The starting point

The website had 8 H1 headings on a single page (Google couldn't tell which one was the real title), duplicate titles and descriptions, 9 links pointing to pages that no longer existed, no structured data, and around 27 MB of uncompressed images spread across the site. Basically, invisible to Google and slow for anyone arriving from a phone.

What I did, round by round

No single change and wait. Four rounds, each one checked against the real published code, not against what the editor shows:

✕Up to 8 H1 headings on the same page
✓One single clear H1 per page
✕Duplicate titles and descriptions
✓Unique title and description across all 13 pages of the site
✕9 broken internal links
✓9 redirects fixed
✕No hreflang between Spanish and English
✓Correct reciprocal hreflang between both languages
✕No structured data at all
✓Structured data (Organization) added to the site
✕Unverified property in Search Console
✓Verified, with sitemap submitted
✕About 27 MB of unoptimised images
✓Images optimised down to 1.2 MB in total
✕A page with an incorrect example address
✓That page, removed

The change with the biggest real weight was the images:

Before
27 MB
After
1.2 MB

Measured result

The numbers don't lie:

Round 1
42
Round 2
53
Round 3
65
Round 4
69

From 42 to 69 out of 100. A 64% increase, with every round verified live.

Why it is anonymised

The client preferred not to make the company public. I respect that decision: the numbers and the changes are real, the only thing missing is their name.
